The eSSential RICC System Series – Getting Started
When building your college course curriculum and the supporting appendices in preparation for entering all details accurately within the RICC system, there are a number of helpful tips to keep in mind that will streamline your process and ensure all aspects of the entires are accurately documented. Let’s begin with Appendix A, Employment Profile – the starting point and the framework for building your course content.
Helpful tips for building and entering Appendix A in the RICC System:
- Note that Appendix A is on page 4 and 5 of the program application.
- Page 4 contains two parts: Job Profile
- “Provide an industry based job description of the vocation(s) for which this program provides training. The job description should identify the frequency, importance and complexity of the tasks and sub-tasks that the individual is expected to perform.”
- The job profile is often misunderstood in its documentation. To simplify the process begin with the core outcomes for each major task and then assign the corresponding sub-tasks. Next assign a rating value (for example of 1 – 10) with 1 being the least critical variable and 10 being the greatest critical variable. Do this for the frequency, importance and complexity of the tasks and sub-tasks and this will provide the framework from which to build and focus your content.
- “List the specific knowledge/skills most usually listed in job advertisements for this vocation(s).”
- Page 5 contains two parts: Job Opportunities
- “Attach material relating to the level of labour market need for employees in this vocation(s). For example: labour market studies, or trade and professional publication articles, or statements from placement agencies, etc.”
- This market research materials along with the names of offering institutions with similar programs form the essence of the studies.
- “Attach job advertisements for the vocation(s) appearing in the last 12 months in your marketing area clearly demonstrating the link between the program title, employment demands and your projected enrolment (Note: You must provide 10 advertisements or 50% of the number of students which is listed in the “1st year projected enrolment” item in the Enrolment Information box, whichever is greater.”
- Be sure to clearly articulate the information required.
