PCConsulting ~ Esthetician Subject Specific Standards

Are you familiar with Superintendent’s Policy Directive #6 ~ Esthetics Program Approval Requirements and the 2010 Esthetician Subject Specific Standards?

© 2010, Queen’s Printer for Ontario – “All programs that provide training in all the skills and knowledge required to obtain entry-level employment in esthetics such as, but not limited to Medical Esthetics, Advanced Esthetics, Cosmetology, and/or Spa Beauty Therapist are subject to this policy directive.

New Programs – PCCs intending to offer program(s) to prepare students for an entry-level position in the Esthetics field must adopt the MTCU’s Esthetician Subject Specific Standards; obtain a third-party assessment attesting to compliance with the Esthetician Subject Specific Standards; provide proof of compliance with Infection Control Procedures for Personal Services Setting for January 2009; and  submit a complete program approval application through the Registration Information for Private Career Colleges (RICC system).

2010 Esthetician Subject Specific Standards

A PCC Subject Specific Standard applies to all similar programs of instruction offered by private career colleges across the province. Subject Specific Standards are aligned with the requirements of the OQF.

Each PCC Subject Specific Standard includes the following elements:  vocational standards – the vocationally specific learning outcomes which apply to the program of instruction and essential employability skills – the essential employability skills learning outcomes which apply to all programs of instruction.  Collectively, these elements outline essential skills and knowledge that a student must reliably demonstrate in order to graduate from the program.

One of the key components in the Esthetician Curriculum build is the alignment of the subject specific standards to the creation of the Knowledge and Skill Competencies and then developing and aligning the applicable Knowledge and Skill Learning Objectives to each Competencies.  This will provide the framework in which to build the subject name, topics and sub-topics.  All intertwine to ensure alignment to the subject specific standards.
